My work explores tactility through an investigation of layering and transformation. I am drawn to surfaces that have been physically altered, like desktops and walls that demonstrate layers of wear. My art processes display an interest for this tactility, making use of drawing and painting techniques on surfaces of wood and paper. A paintingis started with a single gesture that is most often inspired by a previous painting. Marks are layered in response to each preceding idea, creating a record of compositional decisions and actions. Art historically I associate myself with the work of Joan Miro, Willem de Kooning, Joan Mitchell and Cy Twombly. My paintings are also explorations in material and are heavily influenced by nature and the surrounding landscape.
